About The Foundation Fighting Blindness
Canadian motorcyclists, through Ride for Sight, raise funds for The Foundation Fighting Blindness - Canada. Formerly, the RP Research Foundation - the year 2000 saw a name change for The Foundation, to more accurately reflect the scope of the research into degenerative eye disease that is funded by The Foundation.
Who we are:
The Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB) is the largest private and charitable funder of vision research in Canada.
Who we help:
Canadian families affected by retinal diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa and age-related macular degeneration. These diseases strike the nation’s two most vulnerable populations, children and seniors. It is estimated that vision loss affects over 1 million Canadians.
What We Do:
For more than 35 years, the Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB) has invested in Canadian research into the genetics of eye disease and the underlying mechanism of vision loss. Today, we are entering a new research era when these findings will be translated into treatments for blinding diseases of the retina.
Our Mission is Unique:
To find the causes, treatments and ultimately the cures for retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration and related retinal diseases by supporting research and public awareness.
Our Vision:
To restore the gift of sight to people living with genetic forms of blindness.
When the cure for blindness is found, and it will be, much of the credit will go to the Canadian Motorcyclist.
